Sunday - May 24, 2020 - Beware of False Preaching

May 24, 2020

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their

own desires,” II Timothy 4:3

Down throughout the ages there have been men who have preached another gospel other than that of Jesus Christ. They have watered down the Word of God to the point that sometimes we don’t even recognize what they are saying and teaching. It is totally contrary to the Gospel Jesus came and brought to us.

Growing up there were many descriptions to define preachers. We heard some preachers were Hell fire and brimstone kind of preachers. They preached that Hell was hot and the destiny for all those that refuse the gospel of Jesus Christ. They would often bang on the pulpit and yell and scream their sermons.

There were foot stomping preachers, Spirit filled preachers, Sin-hating preachers, soul-winning preachers and Bible preaching preachers.

Sadly today there are men and women who want to preach a message filled with prosperity, wealth and a sappy form of a god that loves everyone no matter what lifestyle they live. They blatantly disregard the Word of God and preach a happy, feel good kind of message where there is no repentance. Biblical repentance is a change of mind and heart about sin. It’s a change of mind about who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for you and it leads to a turning away from sin. Genuine repentance will lead to a different relationship and attitude towards sin. False repentance never leads to a turning away from sin. “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9

Beware of who and what you are listening to “preach” the Word of God. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” I John 4:1
