“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

The Bible teaches timeless principles like the ones in this passage. How many times have you seen someone struggling under a heavy load? Imagine how much lighter the load would have been, had the person only asked for help. Often times we are too proud to ask someone for help. Perhaps they will think lesser of us if we appear needy or lacking the ability to do it alone. Perhaps they may think we are failures for “biting off more than we can chew.”

Beloved, the truth is that we all need help from time to time. We all need to humble ourselves and admit it. We are definitely ALL in need of the Lord’s help. And He wants to help us. Here we are told to “cast” (meaning to throw) our “cares” (this word means anxiety, worries) on the Lord Jesus. We do that thru prayer. Pour out your heart to God. Tell Him your thoughts, your worries, and your fears. He is Mighty to save. He is the Lord God.

The last phrase explains why we should do this because He cares for us. This is a different word than the one used earlier. This word means to “take care of” as a father cares for his child. It is sometimes used in conjunction with love, as a characteristic of real love.

Beloved, whenever we are worried, scared, or need help we can run to Jesus. He loves us. He cares for us. He is there for us. Praise His Holy Name.
