“For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:6-7

There have been some writers who claimed that the Apostle Paul had a low view of women based on this passage. The truth is Paul was making an attack on women, he was addressing the reality of fallen man. For years I have seen these verses played out before my very eyes. Chances are that you’ve seen it too.

A man will start coming to church and appears to have a change in his life. When he catches the eye of some young lady, he tries to impress her with his “spirituality.” After the young lady falls in love with what he appears to be, the man slowly turns back into the man he was. It’s a sad truth that is repeated many times. A man will come to church with the young woman until they are married, then seldom darken the door afterwards.

Paul says, “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Beloved, always make sure that you are following the Lord Jesus and not someone else. The person that you marry should be following Jesus MORE than they follow YOU. You can NOT FAKE real spirituality. You can’t FAKE a true walk with God. I’m not saying that you will always do the right thing, or say the right thing, BUT you will ALWAYS be willing to REPENT, and be RESTORED. You will STRIVE to live in right relationship with the Lord. Righteousness is a characteristic quality in a believer’s life.
