“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.” 1 Peter 3:18

Beloved, I love the Word of God. It always brings me comfort, grace and peace when I need it most. It is the very Word of God to all of mankind. Sadly, most people today do not turn to the Lord when seeking comfort.

Notice in this passage that Christ suffered ONCE, for sin. When Jesus was dying on the Cross, He was paying the penalty for ALL SIN, past, present and future. Christ does not need to die again every time a person commits a sin. He has ALREADY paid the sin debt. That event needed to happen only ONCE. Beloved, once a bill has been paid you no longer owe that debt. You are freed from that burden. You are free to move on in life no longer held down by the debt you owed.

The Just died for the Unjust. We could never have been able to pay the debt that we owed. We could never have been “righteous enough” to earn our way into Heaven. Jesus paid our debt in full.

Also notice that we need to be saved “ONCE.” Jesus died to pay our debt so that He could “bring us to God.” Beloved, when Jesus has done everything to bring us to the Lord, do you think He would want to lose us again? Of course not. Our salvation is secure for sure, bought by the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

The Believer has NEW LIFE in Jesus Christ, a life to be lived by the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
