“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” 2 Timothy 3:12
Paul told Timothy a certainty. An event that would happen. He wanted to prepare him so that when it happened, he would be mentally prepared. He warned that Christians would be persecuted.
Let’s look at what that actually means. To Persecute: to harass in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict, to cause to suffer because of belief; to annoy with persistent or urgent approaches (e.g. attacks). As you look at Christianity throughout history you will agree that Paul was right, Christians have been persecuted all the way. All but one of the Apostles were martyred, Nero had Christians burned alive and fed to lions, in Europe believers were burned on the gird-iron, drown, and burned at the stake. America was founded by those who were fleeing religious persecution.
The U.S. Constitution is supposed to protect us from this type of persecution, but we see today that Governors and Mayors all across our country are forgetting our History. Satan has always sought to silence the church, but we are still here.
Beloved, don’t be afraid. The Lord will watch over us. We WILL endure. Persecution won’t last forever; it is only temporary. The Lord will give us the strength we need to stand up and stay strong. Persecution is expected when you live for Christ. Let us make our stand with Christ. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Praise the name of Jesus.
