“Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.” Psalm 51:6
People often hide what they do that that they know is wrong. They think by hiding it no one will ever know. That type of behavior is bad enough, but something that’s worse is lying to yourself about what you are doing. People try and rationalize their sin, telling themselves that it is not really a sin.
King David understood that the LORD knows our heart. He not only knows everything we do, but He also knows why we do it. We can never really hide ANYTHING from God. We can lie to Him, but He knows the truth.
David points out that the LORD desires us to be truthful at all times. We are to have truth in our inner being. We need to always be honest with the LORD, and with ourselves. People lie to themselves and other because they know the truth would make them look bad.
Beloved, when we can be honest with the LORD and honest with ourselves, then the wisdom of God is freely given. It is in those moments that we learn the deep things of God. David is seeing his sin for what it really was and how his trying to cover it up was pointless.
Beloved, none of us are perfect. We all have made mistakes. Let us learn from King David and confess our sins, ask for forgiveness, and be changed.
