“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:10-11

It is the heart cry of every soul who has tasted the sweet fruit of forgiveness to have a clean heart. For it is out of the heart that sin is born. It is the heart that is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). David knew that if his life was to be truly different, then the LORD would have to give him a clean heart.

David knew that he would need help in remaining true to the LORD. David is acknowledging ALL his weaknesses to the LORD. He asked that the LORD to renew the same steadfast spirit that David had as a

boy. He wanted to once again stand strong for the LORD as the day when he faced Goliath. I imagine that thought running thru his mind, as he remember how it felt when the LORD stood with him. Now he kneels broken by sin.

Knowing that sin separates us from the LORD, David asks that God not cast him away from His presence. David knew what it was to walk with the LORD. He knew the leadership, protection, grace, and victory of being in fellowship with the God of the universe. He knew the feeling of being filled with the Spirit of God. He now implores God fill him again.

Beloved, we need to ask the Lord Jesus to create in us a clean heart so that we may serve Him. A clean heart that will allow us to forgive others.
