“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.”
Psalm 51:12
My brother always loved old cars. One of his favorite old cars was a Ford Mustang a true American classic. One day he finally acquired a 1967 Ford Mustang. It had several burnt valves and a faded green exterior with a few dings and dents. He wanted to “fix it up” and bring it back to its former glory.
He took it to the mechanic to fix the engine, then to the body shop to fix the dents, and finally to have it painted. He chose “Mid-night Metallic Blue” for the newly renovated ride. It was a thing of beauty. The expression on Mark’s face said it all.
David’s sin had separated him from that loving relationship that he had once had with the LORD. It had robbed him of the joy he had felt being close to the LORD, the security and the safety of being in the arms of God. Depression and despair filled his heart where once joy had lived.
As part of his repentance, David asked that the LORD would restore his joy of salvation. David wanted once again to be useful to the LORD. He wanted to walk with a clean heart before God. David wanted to be upheld by the strong arm of the LORD. To live in that close fellowship again as he once had done.
Beloved, there is no better feeling for the fallen than the feeling of being restored. Beloved, let us live each day as classic human that has been restore. Let us share with others how they can be restored.
