"Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.”
Psalm 51:13
Missions is at the very heart of ALL that God does. The Bible is a love story of God’s redemptive love for lost humanity. David did not deserve another chance. He had not earned the “right” to demand that God give him another opportunity to serve. What David deserved for his sin was punishment. After repentance, what he received was forgiveness.
David knew that he had once again been touched by God’s lovingkindness and mercy. He knew that what he had experienced with the mercy of God was what the world needed to know. He committed himself to teaching others. Notice he was not simply teaching for people to “gain knowledge.” He was teaching about God’s mercy so that “sinners shall be converted to You (LORD).”
David’s repentance and commitment to follow the LORD after such blatant sin is a model for us to follow. He shared with others what he had done, and how the LORD forgave him. His example teaches us about restoration and forgiveness. David’s willingness to repent and turn from his sins is why God called him, “a man after my own heart.” (1Samuel 13:14)
Beloved, we need to be more like David, in that when we sin we should repent and completely turn back to the LORD. We should be willing to share with others how they can find forgiveness as well. May we always be seeking to see others converted to the LORD.
