October 25, 2020 - Lift Up Your Eyes

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth...” Psalm 121:1-2

Who do you rely on for help when you’re in trouble? The Psalmist here is putting his whole confidence in Jesus Christ/God because He knows that God is above all things and is Almighty and Powerful. If we take the time to look at creation then we’ll see how great God is in creating, preserving and protecting what He’s made. Wouldn’t God do more for us than the created things of this earth?

When we are struggling or looking for answers, the first place to look is UP! God is the one that will hold all the answers for us. He has never failed us or let us down yet. Also in a more “Christian” way, but looking up, it could refer to where the temples are built in Israel. They were always on the mountain tops. We should always look for our answers from those who know God, and maybe know God better than we even might.

The Church of God is a place of comfort for us who belong to it. We are surrounded by other Christians who might strengthen us and help us in our needy time. There is strength in numbers! Also if we remember, Jesus always sent out His disciples 2 by 2 because if one were to fall down, the other one would be there to help pick him back up. If one disciple failed or needed anything, the other disciple could supply that need.

It’s very important for us to think about the people and places that we often use to look for our help. Are we relying on people or things which have a good reputation of helping or are they just fair weather helpers? Are we even looking in the right places?

Where do you put your confidence and faith? You must pick a place that will give you full pride and confidence.

It’s almost like choosing a doctor. You would want someone who’s up to date on medicine but who has a long and tested reputation. Someone who is great with patients and people love to go to for help.

“My Help” sung by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir has always been a favorite song for me and brings me such a great comfort and encouragement for my spirit. That song is taken from this passage of scripture. I encourage you to take a listen to it on You Tube if you get the chance: "My Help" sung by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir in HD

My Help: written by Jackie Gouche Farris. On the Brooklyn Tabernacle album "High and Lifted up." Year 1999.

Be careful as you look for your Help!! I pray that you’ll look up and find it in God! He can be trusted.
