Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16
We know that when we are not sober, our thoughts are clouded and that we are not alert.
There are many who seek hope in the substance of things of earth. They turn to a temporary fix for the here and now without thought of a long term hope. But our hope is not to be on feeling good now but the forever life offered by the grace of Jesus. It is a long term never-ending thing that we must choose to set our minds on.
As authentic followers of Christ, we are no longer unknowing or ignorant of what is evil or good. We have been set apart – made holy – by God. We are not perfect but being perfected.
As obedient children with a Godly goal in sight, we must choose to not conform to our old ways because we are no longer old – we’ve been made new. We have the ability to live here on earth as a normal person with an every day life but we but be diligent to choose holiness each day. Even if for no other reason than that God, Himself is holy.
- Pray for reliance on the Holy Spirit today.
- Pray for ability to see evil coming and the ability to choose against it.
- Pray for a heart cry to be more like Jesus.
