“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

1 Peter 4:7-8

The older I get the shorter life seems to be. I once thought that being 60 years old was ancient. Now I know better. The aged Apostle Peter reminded the readers that time was short and “therefore” they should busy themselves with the task at hand: sharing the Gospel. He said to be “serious.” The word used here means “to think soberly” or “with serious intentions.” The Apostle Peter adds to that to be “watchful in your prayers.” In his mind this was a time to be focused on serving the Lord and praying specifically for the things they were encountering.

Beloved, prayer is a serious matter. We should NEVER approach the Throne of Grace in a flippant or cavalier manner. Rather we should be mindful of the spiritual warfare going on around us and pray that the stronghold of the devil would be broken. Beseech the Lord for grace in the Battle.

The Apostle Peter admonishes us to have a “fervent love” for one another. It is the picture of someone who has stretched out as far as they can and straining to rescue someone else. We should love one another like that. Beloved, when we love others to that extent, then we are loving like Christ. His love HAS covered a multitude of sins. Our love for each other should cause us to cover a multitude of sins. Beloved, we have all sinned, and been forgiven. We should learn to forgive each other in the same way
