Tuesday - June 2, 2020 - A Living Hope

June 2, 2020

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to His great mercy, He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3-4

Did you catch that? He has given us a new birth into a living hope! It’s not a salvation into a life of “Jesus and I against my old way of life” – it’s a new way of life. A new life means that there is no old life there. Peter is not saying that we’re perfected at the moment of salvation as far as not having to put the past behind us. Some of the consequences of our actions before salvation may be with us forever as humans. What Peter is saying is that a person who has been born again is starting over. But it doesn’t stop there. We haven’t just been given a clean slate with God; we’ve been born into something. At the point of new birth, our hope has been changed from some earthly fix to the resurrection of Christ! We’re no longer dead in our sins but, in fact, we’ve gained an inheritance that never gets used up, that never gets ruined and that never goes away! Thankfully, also, it’s being kept in the safest place possible.

And, don’t forget that all the praise goes to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ because He did this for us only because of His great mercy! We didn’t and could never earn a second chance to start new again.

- Pray for the chance to tell someone of your Living Hope.

- Thank the Lord for the hope that comes with the inheritance that never gets used up, that never gets ruined and that never goes away and that it’s being kept in the safest place possible
