“But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Jesus Christ.” 2 Timothy 3:14-15
As I drive thru the neighborhood to get to Leawood, I am reminded daily how blessed I am. I was blessed to be brought up in a Christian home by Christian parents. They brought me to church with them every Sunday. As I look at our neighborhood today, I feel a sense of loss. Many parents don’t take an active interest in their children. Many parents are unaware of their spiritual condition, and as a result the spiritual condition of their children.
Paul encouraged Timothy to “continue” in the things he had learned as a child. The things that he had been taught, the things he had been assured to be true. He was taught the Holy Scriptures. His mother had made sure young Timothy knew about the LORD. The Scriptures were able to make him “wise” toward salvation.
Beloved, that is why we as a church keep trying to reach the children and the youth of our community. We know the importance of teaching the next generation the Word of God. I’m reminded of all those faithful Bus Workers who worked tirelessly for many years because they knew their work was important. The Gospel is the only thing that can change a person’s eternal destination. Beloved, may we never lose sight that people need the Lord, and we need to tell them.
