Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope. 1 Timothy 1:1
Last month, Pastor Floyd started the month like this:
“Paul starts his letter to the Galatians pointing out that he is an Apostle. The word ‘apostle’ appears 81 times in the New Testament: ‘Apostle’ (messenger sent by God, 78 times), ‘messenger’ (twice) and ‘he that is sent’ (once). The early church recognized Apostles, as ‘those who had personally, physically seen and been commissioned and sent by the Lord Jesus Christ.’ Paul certainly fell into the category…”
I wanted to start this month by reminding us of what Pastor Floyd wrote, in order to pose a question using today’s verse listed above. Did you know that you, too, fall into this category? Did you know that we who have Christ as our savior and Lord are also messengers sent by God? We have been personally, and sometimes physically, touched by Holy God. Additionally, we have been sent – commanded – by Him to go. It’s true!
We must be diligent to remember that the hope we carry is not just for us – we’re to give it away! In these anxious, unprecedented and unsettling times, we carry a light in the darkness and hope for a hopeless world. While many are looking to their nation’s leaders to come through for them, we have to remember that it is God who has made us apostles of Christ, it is He who has sent us and we have a word of hope from Him to give.
Pray for the opportunity to speak hope and calm assurance to someone today.
