“O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”— which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith.” I Timothy 6:20-21
There are things that people tell you from time to time that you should keep to yourself. We shouldn’t feel like we have to share everything that someone has entrusted to tell us.
Even more so, Ministers are told things in confidence that should never be repeated. People desire to have someone they can tell their deepest, darkest secrets to and know they will never be shared openly.
Paul was reminded Timothy to hold those things shared with him closely to his heart and not repeat them. They may seem trivial but in this world we know that gossip travels faster than the internet. We are of “sharing a prayer request” that should never be told. We should avoid endless chatter and babblings. The Bible warns us all of these things, but especially when it pertains to those things shared with ministers. There can be much damage done by talking about people and situations.
My Daddy said to be careful with the words I speak because they are like water, you can never gather them all back up again once they have left my mouth.
This should be true of every Christian whether they have the title of Minister or not. We should be able to share with one another and know that it will never be publically spoken of again. I can and usually causes others to stumble. We’re never to place a stumbling block in front of anyone. Even if the knowledge we have is true, it should always remain in confidence. Be careful of what you say and who you say it to.
