“But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” Matthew 28:5-7
What started out as a depressing day, became the greatest day in human history. As the women met early that Sunday morning to go to the tomb of Jesus, they were struggling with grief. Struggling with the loss of Jesus who had done so much for them and everyone. Struggling with how to cope, how to move forward. They were there to perform a task that was difficult for anyone to do for a loved one, namely, to properly prepare the body for burial.
As they approached there was an earthquake, the stone rolled away, the guards fell out from fear, and two angels appeared. Everything changed as they heard the Jesus was not there. He had RISEN from the dead. His sacrifice for us was accepted. Sorrow turned to joy in an instance.
The angels gave them Easter instructions, “go quickly and tell His disciples.” Beloved, we must also “go quickly” and tell others the good news of the RISEN LORD.
Christ is RISEN! Christ has risen INDEED!
