First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4
Does it seem that we, as a society in general, like to see people fight? Go online and do some video searches for “fights”, and you’ll easily find tens of thousands of video footage to view. The proliferation of cellphone cameras and social media has made it easy for anyone and everyone to immediately become an “on the spot reporter.” Posting hours of – you name it, it’s out there videos, has become almost a “new national pastime.” Why are we like this? Unfortunately, it’s part of our sin nature. We seem drawn to it, even if we don’t like fighting and arguing, ourselves. We can’t seem to not want to watch, even if it’s just for a few seconds.
Paul’s answer was prayer. Maybe you’ve heard it said that you can’t, fight with someone, if at that moment, you begin whispering a prayer for them. Kind of takes the fun out of it. Furthermore, Paul says that the Lord is pleased when we lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. Online videos of people fist-fighting in the local mart over toilet paper or in the streets over a driver driving too slow, does not paint a picture of tranquil living. People in the videos are not displaying godliness or dignity. Let us as followers of Christ, seek to be different.
Pray for those who may not know the significance of today
Pray that we would live at peace with each other
