Timothy, my son, I am giving you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies previously made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the good fight, having faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and have shipwrecked their faith.
1 Timothy 1:18-19
Today, I want us to key in first on the word “recalling.” When Paul writes these words to Timothy, he wants him to realize that the instruction he is giving is not just for the short term. It’s not just for the problem at hand. This is qualified by the thought that Timothy will have a good fight to fight and a good faith and conscience to keep. There would be future battles and situations with which he would need to apply the lessons he had learned and the instructions he had received when he was younger. Paul reminds Timothy of some who had sound instructions, but set them aside and the results of doing so. They “shipwrecked” their faith!
You see, it important as we “go through the journey of life,” so to speak, that we remember to be diligent to make Biblical instructions a part of our life so that we don’t forget them or trade them for unsound doctrine in the future. We need to have them ready to recall for living, at any point.
Let us make the Bible and sound teaching a routine part of our life. Let us listen to and learn often from trustworthy teachers as it pertains to godly living. King David wrote that he “hid” God’s words in his heart on order to keep from sinning! Let’s be like David. Let’s be like Timothy. Let us be ready to recall God’s words at a moment’s notice.
Pray for the Youth and the Children who have not been able to come to church for a long time – that they’d “hang in there.”
Pray for the Adults of Leawood - that the Lord would sustain you/them, also.
