"I will praise the name of God with song. And magnify Him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30
One of my earliest memories of church is standing between my Mom and Dad as they held the hymnal and sang with the congregation. It wasn’t the music of the radio. He wasn’t the music of the T.V. variety shows. This music was different, it was special. I remember thinking that this was fantastic, a thousand people singing the same song at the same time.
The difference in the music was the attitude of the heart. The congregation was not singing for entertainment. They weren’t singing to impress others. It wasn’t a performance. It was the attitude of their heart set to music. It short it was WORSHIP.
Sometimes in my Quiet time with the Lord, I will start by singing a hymn or two. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people. It’s not about how great your voice is, it’s about the attitude of your heart. You should try it sometime.
The Psalmist that praise Him in song and magnify Him in Thanksgiving. As we recount to Him all the things that we are thankful for, our gratitude grows. As we add up all of His blessings toward us our hearts and minds remember again the greatness of God.
Our understanding of His love and mercy increases and our faith in Him strengthened.
Beloved, the opposite is also true. If we don’t take time to praise Him and thank Him for all that He has done, we tend to forget and begin to drift away from Him.
