“He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me; And to him who orders his way aright I shall show the salvation of God.” Psalm 50:23
When we hear the word “sacrifice” we think of some painful loss. It might be money, a beloved object, time, or even loss of life. In the Old Testament a “sacrifice” was placed on the alter as a sign of submission to the will of the LORD. There were different types of items that could be offered as a sacrifice depending upon the purpose or need.
In this verse the Psalmist reminds us that we need to “sacrifice” (lay on the alter) a time of giving thanks to God. I’ll be honest with you, most people when they spend time in prayer, they are asking the Lord to “do” something or “bless” something. We forget that we should also spend time thanking the Lord for ALL that He has done, is doing, and will do. Beloved, none of us would be where we are today without the Lord. Notice when we spend time thanking the Lord, it honors Him. He enjoys hearing us acknowledge how much we love and appreciate ALL that He does for us. If you want to honor God one way is to thank Him.
Also notice that as we live a life of trying to please Him that He will “show” us salvation. In other words, He will help deliver us from the dangers of the world, even those of our own making.
Beloved, spend some time today just thanking the Lord for what He has done. Be specific. Let your thankfulness flow from your heart.
