“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” I Timothy 2:1-2

The Apostle Paul gives young Timothy some wonderful words of wisdom here in these verses. He is teaching him, and every generation since Timothy, how we are to act toward others.

We are to be people of prayer. Notice that he uses three words that are almost synonyms to describe our activities: supplications, prayers, and intercessions. These three covers the different types of concerns. If something is needed from someone; help, a new job, forgiveness, understanding, etc., Paul says pray about it. If someone needs something; Paul says pray for that need in their lives. Finally, if there is a spiritual situation that requires the divine intervention, the solution is to pray. As believers in Christ, prayer should always be our first response.

Not only should we pray for others, but we should also be thankful in our praying. Sometimes it is difficult to pray for those we don’t agree with, to hold them up in prayer, yet we are commanded to do so. We are to pray for our leaders whether we voted for them or not.

We pray for everyone everywhere that we may lead a quiet and godly life. If ever our country needed us to PRAY its NOW. If we are to live the type of godly life here in America it will be because God’s people began to really pray.
