“Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 118:1

Today is filled with family, food, and fun. Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite days of the year. Cajun deep-fried turkey, dressing (all time favorite food), deviled eggs, sweet potatoes, rolls, just to name a few things. Sometimes, in all the excitement of the day, its easy to forget the real reason for the celebration.

The pilgrims were so grateful to the Lord for providing for them in this new country that they call a Day of Thanksgiving to God for all of His mercies. Beloved, don’t let any try and tell you that America was not started as a Christian nation. EVERYTHING in the founding of this country has to do with Christ.

Just as those early pilgrims were grateful to the Lord for seeing them through the hard times and giving them a bountiful harvest, we too should be thankful for all He has done for us. Be thankful for the family that can get together and those who can’t be together. Look around and remember all the Lord has done.

This verse tells us that the Lord is good. All the time the Lord is good. The Lord is always working things out for our good. We may not “feel” like it sometimes, but it is still true. We need to trust Him and praise Him.

The Psalmist also gives us another reason to be thankful. “His mercy endures forever.” That means what the LORD has forgiven us of will say forgiven for all eternity. Our chains are gone. We’ve been set free. Oh, today be thankful our sins have been forgiven.
