“I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart;

I will tell of all Your marvelous works.” Psalm 9:1

Growing-up my older brother and I had a favorite past time: aggravating each other. We usually ended up fighting at some point. My parents were great, they would make us clean up whatever mess we had made and then apologize. I honestly can’t count the times I was told, “Say you’re sorry.” I did what I was told, but it was seldom heart-felt.

Sometimes when we are told to give thanks to the LORD, we do so out of obligation. Our heart is not in it. The Psalmist tells us to give thanks with ALL of our heart, or wholeheartedly.

Think of a time when you were really burdened about some issue or circumstance. You were so burdened that you prayed about the issue for weeks, crying out to God for help. Now, remember how thankful you were when God blessed you. Did you thank Him with your whole heart? Did you praise Him?

Beloved, when we are truly thankful for all that the LORD has done, we naturally do the second thing that the Psalmist mentions: we “tell of all of His marvelous works.” The LORD blesses us in order that we might tell others. By telling others what the Lord has done for us we do two very important things: bring glory to God and tell others about our gracious and glorious God. Others may come to faith in Christ because of our testimony of God’s faithfulness. As the Lord blesses us, we should be faithful to share it with the world.
