November 7, 2020 - Excellent Greatness

Praise Him for His excellent greatness. Psalm 150:2b

If God were to be described as being great, that would be just fine, right? The greatness of God can never be matched even though many things are called great. In fact, at this time in history, people are traveling all around the country telling folks that greatness has been brought back again and now it’s time to keep the greatness. The word is all around us. Many people in sports are called great. It took me a while to finally realize that when commentators were saying that someone was a “GOAT” that it meant the Greatest Of All Time. I wonder what it takes to achieve earthly greatness. One thing for sure is that we don’t have any problem praising each other for our earthly greatness.

Notice that the psalmist added the word excellent. He possibly noticed even in that society, that people were going around praising each other’s greatness. He wanted to point out, perhaps, that God is not merely great but He is excellently great - God’s greatness is accompanied by: very good, superb, outstanding, magnificent, of high quality, of the highest quality, of the highest standard, exceptional, marvelous, wonderful, sublime, perfect, eminent, pre-eminent, matchless, peerless, supreme, first-rate, first-class, superior, superlative, splendid, admirable, worthy, sterling, fine. (Synonyms of excellent by OxfordDictionaries.com)

We must remember that we do not praise God for His garden-variety greatness. No, He is also excellent in all He does and all that He is. That’s why we praise Him!

- Pray for awareness of the excellence of God

- Pray for awareness of the greatness of God

- Praise Him, for He is the Greatest of All Time
