Praise him with trumpet blast; praise him with harp and lyre. Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and flute. Praise him with resounding cymbals; praise him with clashing cymbals. Psalm 150:3-5
When we look at today’s verses it sounds like the instruction is to the whole band. There doesn’t seem to be a break offered to any of the musicians. All are invited to take part in the praise. But what about those of us who aren’t instrumentalists?
According to dictionary.com the definition of the word “band” is as follows: noun - 1 company of persons or, sometimes, animals or things, joined, acting, or functioning together; party; troop 2a Music. a group of instrumentalists playing music of a specialized type. b a musical group, usually employing brass, percussion, and often woodwind instruments, that plays especially for marching or open-air performances. 3a division of a nomadic tribe; a group of individuals who move and camp together.
So, with that being said, if there be any group united in one common goal, one could call them a “band.” We, being a body of believers, are therefore not exempt from coming together to offer praise to God as one unit. Let us all be encouraged to use our noise making ability to give praise!
So, jump on in there – clash some cymbals today!
