November 9, 2020 - Undignified Praise

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150:6

Up till now we’ve seen that the ones who should praise the Lord are the ones who meet with God on a regular basis, the heavenly host, the ones who recognize a certain excellent greatness about God, and the band members. Or, is that really what we’ve seen? Just when you thought it was safe to not consider yourself in any of these categories, the psalmist includes this final admonition: if you’re breathing – praise the Lord! I guess that means you too.

Yes! Praise is not for the specifically listed persons at any given time. It’s not reserved for any given place. It’s for all of us at all times at all places. Even a king Those of us who know Christ as savior should have no problem with this. Praise to the Lord is to be part of our everyday existence.

Luckily, it does not have any required form either. When chastised by Michal, the daughter of Saul, for dancing in the presence of God, King David in 2 Samuel 21-22 said this: “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

The point is not that our praise would be foolish the point is that it would be confident, even if the onlookers don’t understand it or think it’s silly looking – they won’t understand it anyway! But that’s okay, it’s not for them.

- Pray that the Lord would give a chance to speak a word of praise about Him to someone – maybe even today.
