“Don’t be too quick to appoint anyone as an elder, and don’t share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.” I Timothy 5:22
There are many times in our lives that we get in a big hurry to do things. Sometimes, being in a hurry can get us into situations we wished we could avoid. And there are decisions we need to make, that take time and wisdom from God to do what is right. Choosing Godly leadership is one of those decisions that we’d better make sure we know God’s Will about when we make that decision.
Many things look so different on the surface but when we start to take a closer look at them, they appear to not be quite the same as we imagined. We often make rash judgments when we should slow down and consider what God wants in our lives.
When we look at the leadership of our churches, we should always take our time and examine the individuals to make sure they are the right character to hold those positions. There may be flaws in them that we overlook by making such a hasty decision. Picking the wrong leadership for our churches could end in disaster. Look at the children of Israel when they were choosing their Kings. Some were good but some didn’t end well. Look at our country, there are some men we’ve chosen as President that made our country better and then there are some that led our nation in the wrong direction. Leadership positions are important and they should have the qualities that lead us in the right direction.
Even more so, we as Churches need to seek Godly leadership and wisdom. The men that lead us should be men after God’s own heart and have godly characteristics. We need to make sure they measure up to the guidelines in God’s Word. They need to be men of quality and wisdom.
Our Pastoral Leadership or Elders should match up with God’s design. Their flaws could lead us as a church into sin and sinful decisions. So therefore, we must be diligent in our selectiveness. If there is an issue, deal with it immediately and do not allow Satan to get a foothold into our church. Pray for God’s protection of the Church body as well. Be still and know that I Am God!...” Psalm 46:10
