“where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.” Mark 9:44; 46; 48
How many times does God have to say something for it to be true? The answer is, just once. So what does it mean when He says the exact same thing three times? It must mean that it is important. In describing Hell, the lake of fire, Jesus repeats the phrase in three different verses.
Beloved, Jesus was not trying to scare His audience, but rather teach them the seriousness of Hell.
Note the two aspects that Jesus mentions. First, their worms do not die. No doubt, every person had at some time seen the worms feasting on a dead animal. The image was horrific nevertheless real. Jesus points out that the worms of Hell never die. They will feast on the flesh of the finally impenitent forever and ever. There will be no relief, ever.
Second, the flames will never be quenched. The flames of Hell will forever be burn the flesh of those who choose to reject the Lord. There will be no breeze, no rain, no snow, nothing will by any means diminish the flames of Hell.
Beloved remember, Hell was created to punish the devil and his demons. It was created as a place of punishment. Hell is as REAL as Heaven. When we finally realize that fact we will become better witnesses for the Lord Jesus. He provided a way for sinners to be saved. We NEED to be sharing the Gospel with the world, lest they spend eternity in the place called Hell.
