September 22, 2020 - Don't Re-Invent the Church

“And He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written,

‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’?

But you have made it a robbers’ den.” Mark 11:17

Can you imagine coming to Leawood’s Prayer Tower and finding a room full of vending machines that gave out Lottery tickets? Wouldn’t you be shocked? Would it cause your blood pressure to rise a bit? Would you immediately go to the pastors and try to get things changed back immediately?

I can’t imagine coming into our sanctuary and seeing the pews removed and yard sale tables everywhere with merchandise all over the place. I’d be so disappointed that I could not worship in this space anymore. Actually, I’d be furious and want things changed, “right NOW!” There’s a problem that needs to be addressed!

The problem that I’ve seen lately in the church and in this world is that we’ve gotten soft and allowed the world to creep in little by little and take away anything that resembles Jesus Christ in our lives. We are changing to suit the wants of the world today and throwing away elements that move us to true worship. Preachers have chosen to preach a softer message, one of Hope, Heath and Happiness moving away from conviction of sins, changes in lifestyles and the Holiness of a Righteous God. There are not that many Hell, Fire and Brimstone sermons these days because we don’t want to offend or scare anyone to think that God is not loving and courteous.

I’m wondering if Jesus thinks the same about the church today as He did when He entered the Temple that day. I’m sure many churches today disappoint God.

We’ve lost the REVERANCE of Worship! There is no awe of God and a time when we adjust our thoughts and minds into a mindset of Worshipping God for who He Is. Do you wonder in your mind and spirit about how Holy God is? Do you admire His attributes of Power, Creativity, Might and Authority? “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24) When you attend worship these days, do you feel in your spirit that you’re in the presence of God? Do you ever get convicted of things in your life that shouldn’t be there? Do you ever feel like God is calling you to the altar to pray specifically for something or someone or to make a change in your life through His power? Do you long to spend more time with God?

We are blessed at Leawood to come from a heritage of the Power of Prayer in our lives and in our Church life too. The Prayer Tower has been a blessing in the life of Leawood and her Church member. Are you a part of that ministry? Would you consider adding that ministry to your lifestyle?

- Pray for God to bless your Prayer Life

- Pray for God to bless your Worship times

- Pray for God to bring others into the life of Leawood.
