September 24, 2020 - Looking for God Working in Your Midst

“Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” Mark 12:43-44

Jesus wants to make the disciples think when He challenges them to watch what just happened in the collection for the poor. They see widow woman who puts in a small amount to the offering. We often look at the “amount” and not the intention of what’s being given. Here this poor woman gave ALL that she possessed. What was she going to do for food or anything else she might need now that she’s given away all that she had? Was this a thoughtless gift on her part, not looking at what her needs might be down the road? Or was it a gift of faith? Did she put all her trust in God that she gave what she had because she trusted in God providing for all her needs? God included this in scripture to teach us something.

Sometimes we only think about our Worship including singing and listening to a preacher, preach God’s Word but it’s much more than just that. Our hearts are the main attraction in God’s eyes; He looks for the intentions of what we are in the process of doing. Why are we singing? Why are we giving an offering? Why do we give up our time to come to church? Why do we choose a certain ministry to be an active part of? The answers to these questions are the things that interest God. Do we worship and serve out of an obligation to Him or is it a true gift of love that we honor Him with by our actions?

This woman shows us a beautiful picture of trust and worship. Her relationship with God is boldly seen by her generous gift of an offering and the open trust that her needs would be met by her Heavenly Father when it arises. WOW!! She shows a complete surrender to her Savior and the Lord of her life! This woman honors God by her actions and motives, 100 percent.

Where are you in this picture? Do you openly give and worship generously to God, taking your hands completely off of your selfish control and trust Him completely? Or do you give what you reasonably figure out that you can afford? Sometimes God wants to see just how far we trust Him by placing on our hearts how to worship Him.

Matthew 17:20 (KJV) – “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

- Pray for God to move in the hearts of every church member

- Pray for God to teach you how to truly worship Him daily

- Pray for a Faith like this widow woman
