“First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. Timothy 2:1-2
So, after advising Timothy to pray for something specific first, then praying for someone specific second, he arrives at thanksgiving. We pretty much know that this means thanking God for all of whom or what we feel thankful for. This one’s easy. What might be a list of things you’re thankful for?
Now, it looks like the pattern of prayer being suggested is this: first a particular issue, second general conversation with God, third a particular person, fourth a word of thanks (to God) – for everyone and, finally, for those in authority.
If you find yourself lost in your thoughts at “prayer-time” or you don’t have a direction for the conversation (with God) in mind, maybe try the outline or suggestion of Paul today.
We’ll get to the “whys” and “for what reasons” tomorrow…
Pray for Missionaries as they’re most likely on stay-at-home orders too
